This covers all of Marin County (SRA / LRA), except for Federal Responsibility Area (FRA). PRC 4201 - 4204 and Govt. Code 51175-89 direct the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to map areas of significant fire hazards based on fuels, terrain, weather, and other relevant factors. These zones, referred to as Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ), define the application of various mitigation strategies to reduce risk associated with wildland fires. CAL FIRE has remapped Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ) for State Responsibility Areas (SRA) (maps effective April 1, 2024). The LRA portions of the map were originally developed in 2007 and show Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ) in Local Responsibility Areas (LRA). The updated LRA FHSZ maps used the same methodology as that used for SRA and were released February 24, 2025. The maps have been finalized and adopted by ordinance by each affected local jurisdiction and was ratified by the Marin County Board of Supervisors 6/24/2025. This specific dataset provides boundaries for FHSZs within LRA lands. Since these zones were the result of a model that considers the influence of fire behavior and embers from adjacent lands, zones for SRA are included to assist in understanding the hazard zoning on LRA lands. Draft maps are available at: http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/projects/hazard/fhz.html More information about the project can be found at: http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/projects/hazard/hazard.html

",
