Display Name:   Anadromous Fish Zone 20-foot buffer

Description:   The Anadromous Fish Zone is a policy area calling for the protection of steelhead, coho, chinook fish species. Policies described in the 2007 Marin Countywide Plan (CWP) for the Stream Conservation Area (SCA) are applicable. For details refer to 2007 CWP Program Goal-4 on Reparian Conservation but specifially Goal Bio-4a Adopt Expanded SCA Ordinance. Anadromous fish-bearing stream reaches may be initially identified from topographic maps by considering the limit of anadromy up to a sustained channel slope of eight to ten percent. Resident trout reaches are defined as channels with gradients up to 20 percent (Robison et al. 2000, SSHEAR 1998). DFG biologists or land managers may have knowledge of anadromy limits due to local features such as falls, debris jams, small dams, or other stream crossings that may act as migration barriers. From: CA Department of Fish and Game habitat restoration manual, April 2003, Chapter IX-Fish Passage Evaluation at Stream Crossings The zone is a setback (buffer) from the bank of streams, spatially discribed in CWP pages 2-31/32. For stream data we use the Stream FC from County of Marin DPW {querying features "[combo]>0" where 0 means no protection is required, greater than 0 means one or more of the three fish need protection}. There are two groups of setbacks: 1) a combination of 40, 70, 120ft from stream center line (compensating for CWP specified 20', 50', 100' resp. setbacks from bank) in the City Center Corridor (CCC) 2) 120ft buffer from stream center line (compensating for 100' from bank) of streams in Marin for the Coastal, Inland Rural and Baylands Corridors.
